Star Fox made an appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy movie recently, and with that has been a lot clamouring for Fox and the gang to get their own movie. This is understandable, I would like to see that myself, but I wanted to give my perspective on what that should even be in the first place.
Now, over the years you’ve probably seen opinions floating around that Star Fox looks like crap. Why does he look like a plush toy in Smash Bros.? Did they make that decision just to sell merchandise? How come they made him look so realistic originally? That’s weird! So ugly!

The answer for that is just because Shigeru Miyamoto loved puppet-based action shows, something that has a long and glorious history, particularly in the United Kingdom. The most well-known is most likely Thunderbirds from the 1960s, maybe just due to that gif that gets thrown around a lot online.

See? That’s the one!
But if you want a Japanese-specific example that would be Star Fleet from the 1980s, which was a massive flop in Japan as is my understanding, but it got really popular on British Television. It’s a good thing that’s the case because it’s a great show, and Brian May and Eddie Van Halen’s cover version of the theme song is fucking awesome.
So, if you’re asking me what a Star Fox movie should even look like, it should look like this. And I wouldn’t change a goddamn thing.
