The thing about internet dwellers these days are that they’re all blitheringly fucking stupid, increasingly insular, and entitled to be agreed with, and today the thing they’re feeling outraged towards is some people not really liking Clint from Stardew Valley all that much.
Part 1: Come back when you're a little... MMMM... richer!
Now, the reason I find this interesting is because of how extremely predictable it is. The internet has a very obvious type, that being quirky shopkeepers. If you asked the most boring person on earth what their favourite Zelda character is, they would most likely say Ravio or Morshu.
This means a character who just runs a store of some kind, has a favourite food, and is kind of funny I guess, that's all it really takes to get the internet to absolutely fucking lavish them.

In this case, a part of the reason why it's so predictable, is because a lot of Stardew Valley players don't actually spend their time fishing or *gasp* farming, no, they spend it mining, so it makes sense why they would get so attached to the Blacksmith.
Part 2: Men who hate themselves
The next is, and this is something I feel a lot of us have experienced, but a lot of people just find shyness really off-putting. There's also just this thing where anyone who reminds them of the Yiik guy is immediately unattractive by association.
See, Clint’s story is that he’s lonely and wants a relationship with Emily, but he isn’t brave enough to talk to her. That’s not a bad thing all on it’s own, but he also seems to resent Emily for not noticing him. And it just gets even creepier if you marry Emily and he still has scenes about pursuing her.
With that said, it’s probably not fair - simply being shy shouldn’t be admonished all on it’s own, but if there’s this perception of Clint as being “basic” or a “nice guy”, it’s not coming from out of no where, it’s easy to understand why.
