Alright, so, I don't really care if a random calls anything that I like "slop" or whatever the next meaningless snarl word is gonna be, the part that usually annoys me though, is just the simple fact that a lot of people are dim and don't know how to respond to things that they don't like or disagree with.

Here's the thing, do you know how to explain why somebody else is wrong, or why you disagree with them? Because for a lot of folks, it turns out, no, they can't. It's also why people won’t stop screaming about "media illiteracy" all the time, it's an easy buzzword, and the rest is too much like homework.

A reoccurring discourse that just happened again was "bean heads" and maybe that proves my point? Now, if you wanna go way back, one of the ways the old Ghostbusters cartoon got censored was by taking away Janine's triangle glasses because sharp edges were deemed "too scary".

The secratary from the 1980’s Ghostbusters cartoon. On the left is the version with her triangle glasses. The right is the one that was replaced to have her wear round glasses instead.

So, you could make the argument, that's what they feel bothered by, is just the vibes of something that feels extremely homogeneous and watered down. It’s the same thing people complain about when talking about the “Ghibli-esque aesthetic” and how they feel the internet keeps watering it down into something that they perceive as being super cozy and more non-threatening.

Now, what cartoon recently can you think of that uses a lot of sharp edges? What cartoon has razor sharp teeth and drowns you in the colour red from every corner? Well, if you’re reading this from the Wayback Machine, it’s Hazbin Hotel. How’s life in the future, by the way?

I can't say for sure because I only just skimmed through like 3 YouTube videos, but that seems to be the general trend in reworking the Hazbin Hotel character designs, by making them round as fuck, and therefore decidedly a lot less threatening and "scary". And you know, that’s really lame, it sucks.

Here’s where the difficult part comes in. Let’s say you think differently and you actually like super round and artificially cozy aesthetics? Which is perfectly fine, that’s totally normal, that’s not a bad or incorrect position to hold.

Well, if they had to explain why they think you’re wrong, they can’t do it. And that’s also a big part of why they’re always so angry, because they haven’t found the correct buzzwords in order to shame you and make you shut up yet.
